Dana's story
My name is Dana Mays. I was born and raised in Augusta GA. I had a great childhood, for the most part. I ended up falling in with the wrong crowd and started experimenting with alcohol, drugs and sex at the age of 14.
Before I arrived at Angels in Flight on August 28, 2013, I struggled with a methamphetamine addiction. I have been clean for over 13 years, thanks to God and the people at Angels in Flight. Since I graduated the program at Angels in Flight I have graduated college with a certificate in dental assisting. I went back to school and received my Bachelor of Science in Nursing, and I am currently working as a charge nurse and unit-based educator on a progressive care cardiac unit!
I have 4 children. I lost custody of one of them while I was in active addiction but, as soon as I left Angels in Flight, I regained custody of him. It is an uphill battle, and I can’t say that I don’t struggle sometimes, but using the recovery tools that I received at Angels in Flight, staying close to Penny (Foskey) Campbell and staying close to God help me stay grounded and clean. I really do not know where I would be if it was not for Penny and her facility.
